Love News has confirmed that the Minister of Health and Wellness, Kevin Bernard, has decided to replace Dr Andre Sosa as the Chairman of the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital Authority Board. Love News has received a leaked email sent to the KHMHA Board by Minister Bernard. In that email, Bernard says (quote) As the Minister responsible for the appointment of Chairman of the Board of Governors, I am hereby advising the board that I have made a change to the chairmanship of the Board of Governors. I want to thank Dr Andre Sosa for this time he served as Chairman and wish him well in his future endeavours.” (end of quote) That email was sent at 12:58 this afternoon and in it, the Minister also states that board member Arun Hotchandani has been appointed as interim chairman up until February 28 in order to identify the new Chairman of the Board. This evening Love News reached out to Minister Bernard for comment. He told Love News exclusively that he (quote) believes that the KHMH needs to move forward in a viable manner, financially and I think that while Dr Sosa has served in that capacity and meant well for the KHMH and I wish him well, I just think it is time for us to refocus the KHMH in addressing many of the issues facing KHMH at the same time and to move KHMH in a more financially viable footing and I think we need to identify a new chairman who will be able to do that.” (end of quote) Minister Bernard stressed that his decision is not related to union activities or the industrial actions carried out by the KHMHA Workers Union. And while that might be the ministry’s official position, sources on the board tell Love News that Dr Sosa and other leaders at the KHMH and the ministry were not getting along. Dr Sosa was appointed to the board in 2020. He told our newsroom that he cannot comment at this time
