Over the past six years, Oceana in Belize has been recognizing several Belizeans for their contributions to the sustainable management and protection of our marine environment. On Saturday night, at a ceremony held at the Mexican Institute in Belize City, Oceana recognized two Belizeans as Ocean Heroes 2016 for their selfless commitment to Belize’s marine environment. The awardees were Wil Maheia and Janet Gibson. Vice President of Oceana Belize, Janelle Chanona told us more.
The Coalition to Save Our Natural Heritage also gave out an award on Saturday night. That award went to Froyla Tzalam of the Sarstoon Temash Institute for Indigenous Management, SATIIM. Tzalam accepted the award which was handed to her by Dr. Candy Gonzalez of the Belize Institute of Environmental Law & Policy
