High Court Decision Looms for Car Theft Duo

High Court Decision Looms for Car Theft Duo

Will the two Mexicans who admitted to stealing rental cars get jail time or will they pay a fine? That’s the question that was discussed in the High Court yesterday. 28-year-old, Alejandro Jair Gonzalez Vasquez, and 37-year-old, Carlos Francisco Morales Jara, appeared, represented by attorney Lynden Jones, while the crown was represented by DPP Cheryl Lynn Vidal. A mitigation plea was provided on their behalf for the sentencing of theft and abetment to theft. Attorney Jones asked the court to render justice with mercy and to impose a fine and to order the men to pay compensation, while the DPP asked for a stiffer penalty of a prison term for no less than 10 years and a fine and compensation.  Justice Nigel Pilgrim deferred sentencing to February 12. The case goes back to July 26, 2023 when Budget Auto Rental’s Office Administrator reported to police that she has called the men several times but could not get a hold of them since July 21 when they rented (2) 2021 Chevy Equinox SUVs, valued at $60,000 each.
