We also asked Minister Requena for an update on the appointment of Rissela Dominguez-Patt as the New Labor Commissioner, effective October 2022. Requena says that Dominquez-Patt has the knowledge and skills to lead the Labor Department forward.
Hon.Oscar Requena, Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Local Government and Labour: “We certainly went through the process of identifying our Labour Commissioner and I know that the media and some other quarters had some concerns about the delay but the truth of the matter is that we were waiting for the Public Service Commission to be put in place because that is the legal entity that certainly signs off on those appointments so that was the delay. I must say that we’re happy to have the new Labour Commissioner on Board. She bas been working with the department for many years, I believe it’s around fifteen years of experience that she brings to the table. She is very much qualified, she has participated in extensive training and certainly we look forward to working with her and for her to be able to bring the kind of leadership that we need at the Labour Department. Prior to that we were supported by our Deputy Labour Commissioner and I want to take the opportunity to publicly thank the Deputy Labour Commissioner Ms.Lamb who was acting in the position and really providing the leadership and support and to a great extent we have been able to carry through the work of the Labour Department and I can say that whilst there may be a little backlog we are certainly on the ball moving with that. We are working very diligently supporting all our stakeholders in carrying out our duties as a department.”
