High Prices are Due to High Costs of Imported Goods Says SIB’s Acting Director General

Also on the rise are imports. The Statistical Institute of Belize recorded an increase in imports by 23.5 percent. The total imports for the month of July 2022 were valued at 211.9 million Belizean dollars. Increases were recorded most in the commodities of Mineral Fuels and Lubricants, surging by 22.3 million Belizean dollars. That’s more than 75 percent of what was recorded last year. The Acting Director General of the Statistical Institute of Belize, Diana Trejo, explains that this is due to the high prices in the world market places.

July 2021 imports totaled 171.6 million Belizean dollars.
