High-Speed Chase Ends in Shoot-Out: Police Unable to Apprehend Suspect

A high-speed chase in rural Belize ended with a shoot-out last night between cops and an unidentified man. Around 8 o’clock, police received information of a man with an illegal firearm on a passenger bus. The officers placed a vehicular checkpoint near mile 15 on the George Price Highway in hopes of apprehending the man. Incidentally, officers observed a white Geo Prism car attempting to evade the checkpoint and decided to set chase. The driver of the car refused to stop, but several minutes later, the car stopped, and the driver began shooting at the cops.  In the end, no one was injured, but bullet holes are evident on the police mobile.  Assistant Commissioner of Police, Hilberto Romero, says that despite search efforts, police were unable to locate the vehicle and its driver.

ACP Hilberto Romero, Officer Commanding Eastern Division: “On Sunday the 18th day of February 2024 around 7:50 pm Hattieville Police reported that they were pursuing a white car on the Boom road somewhere along the prison area the car stopped and a male person came out of the car firing shots towards the police mobile.
