Honduran National Gruesomely Murdered in Rural Belize

On Saturday evening, July 30, a Honduran national was murdered in Hattieville Village, Belize District. Police say that the murder occurred when three individuals were socializing. The assailant claims that the victim came at him with a knife and he acted on self defense. Police have not been able to ascertain that version nor if there were any rivalries between both parties. Assistant Commissioner of Police, Edward Broaster spoke about what the investigation has revealed.

“On Saturday July 30 at about 4:50pm Hattieville police responded to a report of a fight at Mile 14 on the George Price Highway. Upon arrival at the location they found one Yovanni Armando Rosales, 44 years a Honduran National who resides at 14.5 miles on the George Price Highway with a large chop wound to the back of his neck, one on his shoulder and one on his right arm. BERT ambulance responded where they produced him dead on arrival. So far our investigations have revealed that Mr. Rosales was socializing with fellow coworkers when a conflict transpired which resulted in his death, we have since detained a Guatemalan national who is a construction for this incident. He has given a caution statement and he is claiming self-defense and we have forwarded the case file to the DPP for further guidance being that the individual invoked self-defense in this incident.”

The assailant claims to have been attacked and had to act on self defense yet the victim was chopped three times. ACP Broaster spoke about the weapon recovered they believed was used in the murder.

Police have been unable to locate the third individual that was socializing with the two men. It is alleged that he has fled to Melchor, Guatemala.
