Hopkins Man Fatally Stabbed Over Jacket While Visiting Family

George Brown Jr was fatally stabbed at around 6am in Hopkins Village over a Jacket. Brown Jr. was in the country for the past 2 months as he joined his family in mourning the death of his late father and was planning to depart soon as the family had spread the ashes out at the cayes recently. Love News Correspondent Harry Arzu, spoke with mother Marie Brown, who described her final moments with her son. 

Marie Brown, Mother: “My son got up around like seven this morning and told me that he was going to have a cup of coffee and with his cousin Jaden who is his favorite cousin he said “Mom if Jaden comes tell him I went to have a cup of coffee.” And that was the last I heard and saw my son when I got a phone call that my so called whatever son in law had an altercation over his jacket and the next minute I heard my son got stabbed. And that’s all I know. We just got back the 8th of December I went to the Cayes on the 8th of December and our plan was to stay here for a few months and go back to the US. His plan was to go back and join the Navy but they cut my son’s life short over stupidness.” 

Witnesses reported that Brown Jr. was seen running around his aunt’s house, seeking help, but she was not at home. Sadly, he succumbed to a stab wound under the left side of his chest before medical assistance could arrive. Brown Jr.’s cousin, Jaden Rubio shared that he woke up early this morning, telling his mother he was stepping out for a cup of coffee nearby and left a message for him.

Jaden Rubio, Cousin of Deceased: “Well he came on vacation because usually he works in the states and he is my little cousin, whenever he comes through me and him chill so they hurt my family you get me ? And for a jacket. The man took away my cousin’s jacket off nothing and my cousin was telling me he wanted his jacket from the man and the man didn’t want to give my cousin his jacket and that is how he attempted to hurt my family and he had a knife and my cousin didn’t know and that’s how he stabbed my cousin. “

Reporter: Who is the person you’re talking about ? Who is the person you refer to that stabbed your cousin ? 

Jaden Rubio, Cousin of Deceased: “I don’t know the man’s name but he hurt my family.”

Reporter: What time did that happen ? 

Jaden Rubio, Cousin of Deceased: “Well it happened this morning about six o’clock. Me and my other cousin we were drinking coffee actually and then we were just talking about the man’s birthday to have something for his birthday and then at the same time one of my other friends passed and he told us they just stabbed my little cousin. My little cousin was a humble person, he never did anything to anyone. They hurt my loved one you understand ?”

According to reports, the alleged assailant, who is originally from Dangriga and happens to be Brown Jr.’s brother-in-law, has been arrested and is currently in police custody. Investigation is ongoing.
