House Destroyed by Fire in Belize City: No Injuries Reported

A house in Belize City was destroyed by fire over the weekend. On Saturday, August 12, authorities were called to Aloe Vera Street around 11:50 a.m. where they found a bungalow house engulfed in flames. They managed to put the fire out and no one was injured in the incident. Today, Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero explained what information has been gathered thus far.

Eye Witness: “Well me and my guys were chilling out from 6:30 this morning and then decided to go buy some chicken to barbecue. Well I was right here cleaning the chicken you know and when I looked over there I saw smoke coming through the door, black smoke and the bathroom window. And I hurried told those boys “Boy Sailor’s House is on fire !” and those boys ran over there and I ran to get my phone and I called the ambulance. I called fire pump. 9-1-1 because I don’t know the fire number but I think if they had come a little earlier the house could have been saved because I saw it when it was black smoke. When I looked the little girl was running out through the door. So we hurried and got her, got her water to drink.” 

When smoke started coming out of the house, neighbors rushed over to assist the young woman who was inside. She was later taken to the hospital by police. The neighbour who called the authorities when she noticed the fire, told Love News how the situation unfolded. 

ACP Hilberto Romero, Officer Commanding Eastern Division: “Jerome Castillo reported that he went to purchase food and left his daughter at home and when he returned 10 minutes after he saw that the house was engulfed in flames. The fire department responded, police responded. The building was completely destroyed by fire. We do not know at this time, we are waiting for the report from the fire department.”

An official report from the Belize National Fire Service is still pending.
