House Meeting agenda: Teachers and Public Officers getting back their 10 percent, Immigration Ministry’s Amnesty Program,

Members of the House of Representatives will meet on Friday in the National Assembly for a sitting. An important bill that will be introduced is the Public Sector Emolument and Allowances Reduction Repeal Bill. In layman’s terms, this will see public sector workers and teachers, who salaries were cut by ten percent last year, will see their pay go back to 2021 levels. As we reported, Government had announced that the ten percent cut will be discontinued as of July 1. Also on the agenda will be the Belize Nationality Amendment, the Defamation, and the Married Persons Protection Amendment bills, which all go for second and third readings. The first provides for the Government’s amnesty program for irregular migrants. The second is a repeal of the Libel and Defamation Act and make new provisions relating to the tort of defamation. The third will see the removal of the fault grounds for individuals, who apply for legal separation. Also on Friday’s agenda is the government motion, which will make way for a loan from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) to expand and rehabilitate the Philip Goldson Highway.
