Wearing face masks and covering seems to be becoming the normal, after COVID-19 regulations made it mandatory last year. In fact, the COVID-19 rules criminalized anyone who did not wear face mask in public. There are some in the public who have become irritated with having to wear face mask wherever they go. So we asked Health and Wellness Minister Michel Chebat how longer Belizeans will need to wear face masks.
Michel Chebat, Minister of Health and Wellness: “It is important to keep reminding the public of the public health measures that we have put in place. I know it’s been thirteen months and I know that the public is growing fatigued but this is to save your life and this is to save the life of your loved ones so please continue wearing your mask, wash your hands, social distance. In addition if you have not yet been vaccinated it will save your life.”
Hipolito Novelo, Love FM News: By when will Belizeans be able to stop wearing masks ?
Michel Chebat, Minister of Health and Wellness: “I think the mask will be with us for the foreseeable future. I don’t see us getting rid of that, perhaps when we have herd immunity which would be seventy percent of the adult population we can then look at that. For as long as the numbers continue to rise it’s gonna be difficult to get rid of the masks.”
Hipolito Novelo, Love FM News The herd immunity goal is expected to be reached when ?
Michel Chebat, Minister of Health and Wellness: “We’re hoping by the end of the year.”
