Hundreds Gather for Deals at Police Auction in Belize

Sold! It’s the word of the day as hundreds of people gathered at the Queen Street Police Station looking for deals at the latest police auction. Auction goers say that some had gathered in front of the police station as early as six o’ clock in the morning, trying to get a good deal on bicycles, motorcycles, tools and even appliances. Auctions are nothing new, the Police Department holds them every so often after they’ve accumulated items seized or unclaimed, and each auction sees its fair share of returning customers and new comers.

Getting a bicycle for five dollars can be a regular occurrence at a police auction. Many of the items being sold need repairs, so they are sold dirt cheap. But some say that they could have gotten even better deals and accuse the police of beating them to it.

The police Department uses the funds from the auction for the Police Reward Fund.
