In celebration of the 25th anniversary for the Image Factory, the artistic director, Yasser Musa, took part in handing over books about Belize’s history. Cayo Correspondent Fem Cruz attended the launch and brought back some highlights.
Fem Cruz, Cayo Correspondent: Today Friday June 5th marks twenty five years since the Image Factory Art Foundation launched as a creative, collaborative and community movement. Yasser Musa, the Artistic Director of the Factory, spoke about this historic day.
Yasser Musa, Artistic Director, Image Factory Art Foundation: “Today Image Factory Art Foundation turned twenty five years, we are celebrating twenty five years and we launched two actions today. The first is an online art exhibition that if you go to YasserMusa.com you can see over sixty five submissions from sixty five different types of artist including poets, writers, photographers, painters, graphic designers so that’s the online component. The second part is that we made a contribution, a donation, of over five thousand books as you can see in the corner of the National Heritage Library this afternoon we delivered the collection but also we delivered a smaller collection within the collection which is printed matter items and books and catalogs that have been published by the Image Factory over the past twenty five years. So it’s really an important moment for us to be in what I call a collaboration with the library system because as you know the National Heritage belongs to a bigger family of libraries across Belize and the library is one of the few institutions that have contact with the people and the contact is of a high integrity in my view because they are there to protect and preserve important intellectual assets which are the printed materials you see here.”
