Independent candidate for the Dangriga constituency, Cyril Garci Uruwei says he’s confident of a victory going into the general election. Uruwei, who grew up in Dangriga Town, says he’s hopeful that voters of the southern division will give him a chance to implement new ideas. Last year, Uruwei applied to the People’s United Party to challenge the former Area Representative Dr. Louis Zabaneh in a convention but was denied. He says while the decision initially dissuaded him from politics, it later fueled his decision to run as an independent candidate. Uruwei, a first-time politician, appeared on The Morning Show and explained that after living in the United States for several years, he felt his calling was to present himself for political office in Dangriga.
Uruwei will be facing off against the PUP’s candidate, Dr. Louis Zabaneh. The United Democratic Party had initially put forward Norman Usher as its candidate for the constituency, but he failed to show up on nomination day.
