At the last minute, prior to the arrival of the Duke and Duchess on Saturday afternoon, there were changes in the itinerary following protests by villagers in Indian Creek, Toledo District. Initially, a tour of the Akte’il Ha cacao farm was on the royal agenda, but that was adjusted to avoid any confrontations or embarrassments. There were some villagers, however, who feel that the entire situation was blown out of proportion. On Sunday, those villagers who were upset that the Royals would not be going to Indian Creek staged their own protest. The villagers told Love News that the village Alcalde and the Maya Leaders Alliance (MLA) were responsible for the protest that led to the Royals’ visit being canceled. Senior Correspondent Paul Mahung was there and has the story.
