The cost of living continues to rise. Data from the Statistical Institute of Belize indicates that the country experienced an overall national inflation rate of 7.3 percent on the cost of goods and services regularly purchased by Belizean households. Significantly higher prices were seen for various food products. One pound of rice and flour went up by 14.1 per cent, pigtail ballooned by 31.1 percent, whole fish saw an upsurge of 20.2 per cent and natural milk increased by almost 11 percent. The Acting Director General of the SIB, Diana Trejo explains that this is unusually high for Belize and is projected to go even higher.
