Innovative Food Solutions (IFS), a company from Dallas, Texas, USA, has sent representation down to Belize to aid in agriculture development. The discussions began on the possibility of using Dangriga as the first place to initially develop their pilot project by partnering with the Dangriga Town Council. The partnership is driven by the need to develop a healthy food economy in Belize. Belize, oftentimes considered the “bread basket” of the region, can benefit from the program as farm to table concept can aid in foot shortage. Additionally, they are also looking at the possibility of fruit and vegetable exportation to other parts of the world. Mayor of Dangriga Town, Robert Mauriano, spoke to Love News about the importance of opening up the market to create more employment opportunities in southern Belize.
The representatives of IFS have years of experience in food production, energy and value. Farmer with IFS, Doug Keesley, elaborated on the need to implement strategies for agriculture development.
A meeting is expected to be held in a month with the farmers in the south to discuss the developments of the project.
