Institute of Creative Arts Hosts Annual Women in Art Exhibit: Celebrating Female Artists Nationwide

In celebration of Women’s Month, the Institute of Creative Arts (ICA) is hosting an art exhibition to highlight women artists from across the country. The 15th annual Women in Art exhibit opens tonight at the Belisle Art Gallery at the Bliss Center for Performing Arts. The exhibition features a wide range of pieces from drawings and paintings to jewelry and poetry from thirty-five artists. Director of ICA, Kim Vasquez, says that the exhibit was open to artists at all levels, but also serves as a means to help promote up-and-coming artists. She added that the exhibit aims to inspire women and girls to pursue their passion for the arts while supporting those who have taken that step.

We also spoke with one of the artists, Minita Concha, who spoke on the inspiration for her pieces and shared an encouraging word for young girls who have an interest in the arts.

The exhibit runs until Saturday, March 16. It forms a part of a series of activities being held by ICA at the Bliss, which include the painting in pairs event, where participants team up to paint on canvas; and the veranda concert series, which will feature performances by the two female singers from the Garifuna Collective, Des and Chela.
