Internal Investigations Launched into Sexual Harassment Cases within Belize Defence Force

An internal investigation into a case of sexual harassment within the First Battalion of the Belize Defence Force (BDF) was launched today. The media has not been made privy to the circumstances of the case, but we have been made to understand that the investigation is being led by Lieutenant Colonel Jermaine Burns. The investigation is expected to conclude by the end of the month, and its findings are to be presented to the Force Adjutant. There is another investigation that was launched today within the BDF. The incident under investigation is reportedly of a sexual nature that occurred at the Section Commanders’ Battle Course Training Company. Again, we have not been provided the details, but we have been informed that the findings of the investigation are to be handed in by next Wednesday. Leading the charge in this second investigation is Major Megan Aspinall.
