Investigation Continues into Murder of Fisherman Alfredo Rodriguez

Investigation Continues into Murder of Fisherman Alfredo Rodriguez

Investigators are yet to establish a motive for last Thursday’s murder of 42-year-old Alfredo Rodriguez. The father of three’s body was found on Thursday evening in Belize City on the water’s edge in the Port Loyola area. Rodriguez had been shot and killed while fishing in the area. His murder has left his family and the police searching for answers. Today, we asked the Commissioner of Police for an update on the police’s investigations.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “At this time no we don’t have any tangible leads in respect to that matter. I know the police are busy in the area trying to gather as much as they can but so far they have not been able to unearth nothing that could lead them in a particular direction.”

Reporter: By all accounts he seems to have been a law abiding citizen. Do police believe that this may just have been a senseless killing ?

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “Perhaps and from all indications it seems as if he was in the area fishing when he was targeted so we’re hoping that we’ll be able to get something that can give us some leads in respect to that matter.”

Reporter: Would police somewhat encourage persons to be very wary ? Because I know a lot of Belize residents go to that area to fish, to be wary when they’re in that area?

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “Well people are always told to be aware of your surroundings. It’s very important to be security conscious no matter where you go or and no matter how safe an area may be you still need to ensure that you are aware of your surroundings.”

Rodriguez was a resident of the Holy Emmanuel Area.
