Investigation Underway into Fatal Shooting of Belize City Mechanic

Investigators are probing into the latest shooting incident that claimed the life of a Belize City mechanic. Yesterday around 3:30 p.m., 35-year-old, Jarim Armstrong, and another man were targeted by two gunmen as they worked at a home near mile 13 on the Phillip Goldson Highway. The assailants stood outside the yard and let off as many as ten shots, fatally injuring Armstrong. The Antelope Street resident was then taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital and pronounced dead on arrival. Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero says while police have not ascertained a motive, they are searching for two Belize City men.

ACP Hilberto Romero, Officer Commanding Eastern Division: “Police visited the KHMH where they found the Jareem Armstrong with gunshot injuries and he was pronounced dead on arrival. Information is that Armstrong was working on a vehicle at the address along with another person when two male persons came to the area with firearms and fired several shots toward their direction causing his fatal injuries. We are seeking two suspects in regard to this murder.”

Reporter: Do police believe that Armstrong was being followed given that he’s not from that area ?

ACP Hilberto Romero, Officer Commanding Eastern Division:  “The information we have is that he was working on a vehicle for a period of time there and that is where he was targeted. We are looking closely at these three murders that have occurred in that area and we will certainly improve our strategy in that area because this is the third murder now that has occurred there.”

Reporter: Do police believe the suspects are from Rural Belize or from Belize City ?

ACP Hilberto Romero, Officer Commanding Eastern Division:  “We believe they are from Belize City.”

Police are reviewing surveillance cameras in the area.
