Marybeth “Sweet Syrup” Wade remains a person of interest in the murder of thirty-three-year-old Winston “Tanga” James. James was shot dead in January of this year while he was driving a Nissan Pathfinder with Wade in the passenger seat on West Canal. Since this murder, the rumour mill began to grind non-stop on social media with a lot of persons alleging that Wade had something to do with the murder- a voice recording was released, adding to the suspicion. Wade who was arrested, questioned and later released by police, then fled the country, claiming asylum in the US. But as Police Commissioner Chester Williams explained, investigators still have questions for her.
Chester Williams, Commissioner, Belize Police Department: “We have an idea as to who the suspect or suspects are in respect to Tanga’s murder. I expect by now the entire Belizean populace has heard a voice clip that was going around with a particular gang leader and Mary Beth. It is assumed that they are the two persons in that voice clip and certain information was shared. We are looking at those information that were shared to see if we can confirm the information therein. It is going to be extremely hard for many reasons but it is an investigation the police is still looking at at this time.”
Hipolito Novelo, Love FM News: Is Mary Beth wanted or just a person of interest at this time?
Chester Williams, Commissioner, Belize Police Department: “Just a person of interest.”
