Is Chief Executive Officer Marconi Leal Junior on his way out of the Ministry of Transport, Youth, and Sports? As we’ve been reporting, CEO Leal and Minister Rodwell Ferguson have not been seeing eye-to-eye lately. Leal and Ferguson have been at odds over administrative decisions within the ministry. Cabinet Secretary Stuart Leslie has been tasked with mending the relationship, but the relationship between the CEO and the Minister is beyond repair. We asked Minister Ferguson about it today.
Rodwell Ferguson, Minister of Youth, Sports and Transport: “I’m not saying that there’s any hanky panky within my ministry but when I hear of any infraction I will question it and find out what went wrong. So I guess in any marriage or any relationship either you sever from it or you just decide to walk away.”
Reporter: So it’s the case that you guys simply weren’t able to see eye to eye on certain administrative decisions ?
Rodwell Ferguson, Minister of Youth, Sports and Transport:“Maybe quite possible. We are two different human beings, we might have two different insight into what you want to accomplish within a particular ministry. But I was entrusted with the budget for the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Transportation and I want to see it spent properly and the right way to benefit the young people of this country and the commuters of this country.”
Reporter: As the CEO though he is also the CFO so do you believe that he should have had more liberty or more privilege per say when it comes to the spending of finances within your ministry ?
Rodwell Ferguson, Minister of Youth, Sports and Transport: “Nothing contravenes the constitution. The constitution says that the Minister responsible for a particular portfolio is responsible regardless of the situation. I’m not signing onto any documents but I give directions.”
Reporter: Okay but is it concerning that you’ll have to find a new CEO now ?
Rodwell Ferguson, Minister of Youth, Sports and Transport: “Well I can work with anybody once we can come to terms. So once the Prime Minister or the CabSec decides to give me a new CEO I’m going to perform.”
