Is the KHMH Prepared for Monkeypox?

We also asked Nisbet-Cansino about the KHMH’s preparation for monkeypox since the WHO has deemed it a public health emergency.

Chandra Nisbet-Cansino, C.E.O., Karl Heusner Memorial: “Remember as you rightly said, Monkeypox is not a disease that causes severe illness and so we won’t have persons on ventilators and needing supplemental oxygen as a result of Monkeypox. What Monkeypox, the challenge that we are seeing is that it has a longer incubation period so you need to be isolated up to three weeks up to a month. So that will probably be a responsibility on the Ministry of Health and Wellness to maybe find places where these persons can isolate. We’ll go through the process that we did with COVID, either finding places where these persons can isolate or educating them on how to isolate at home so that is more the challenge at this time than hospitalisation and severe illness.”
