It was Fake News!

If you are a Facebook user and have been scrolling the social media platform between last night and today, you may have noticed a post of a house for rent in the Black Berry Ridge Housing Estate. The house on the post belongs to Robert Escobar and the problem is that he didn’t make the post. It was a user under the name Stephen Flowers. Since the post was published, Facebook users have been criticizing the homeowner without knowing the full details. This evening Escobar stopped by our studio to set the record straight. 

Robert Escobar, Owner of House: “About a post that went up about my house for rent and I’m actually living in that house at this time so I don’t know why they put up a post about the government house for rent.”

Reporter: How did you see it and what was your first reaction ? 

Robert Escobar, Owner of House: “Well actually yesterday I was at my mom and then my aunt hollered for me and told me there’s a post up with your house for rent. So she sent it to me and from there I contacted who I needed to contact and proceeded with the information to them.”

Reporter: The post was posted up by someone named Steven do you have any idea who that is ? 

Robert Escobar, Owner of House: “I have no idea who that person is. No idea.”

Reporter: What kind of distress has this caused you because you know a lot of criticism is coming down. 

Robert Escobar, Owner of House: “Yes a lot of people reached out to me and asked me why I’m renting my house and I shouldn’t be doing that so I reached out back to them and told them I’m living in the house. I have no reason to rent the house.”

Reporter: It’s fake news.

Robert Escobar, Owner of House:  “Fake news.”

Reporter: And then the picture they posted up is before you got electricity and all the utilities ? 

Robert Escobar, Owner of House: “Before I get electricity in but I have everything in the house now.”

Reporter: What do you want to say to anybody out there because I think the original post is still up there right ? 

Robert Escobar, Owner of House: “The original post is still up there so I want everyone to understand that I am living in the house, I’m happy with my house. I have my kids there with me so please don’t follow that guy.”
