IWIN PALMA

Iwin Palma, A free man

22-year-old Iwin Sandor Palma, a security guard of a Ladyville address, walked free this afternoon as his trial ended with the jury returning a not guilty verdict. Palma was charged with robbery and grievous harm.

22-year-old Iwin Sandor Palma, a security guard of a Ladyville address, walked free this afternoon as his trial ended with the jury returning a not guilty verdict. Palma was charged with robbery and grievous harm. It took the jury a little over three hours to arrive at a not guilty verdict on both charges. John Popper, the complainant and key witness for the crown, told the court that on January 29, 2016, the accused robbed him of one hundred and five dollars in cash and injured him in the process. However, the accused had a different version of the incident when he took the witness stand.  Palma told the court that Popper was a family friend who was staying at their home at the time in Ladyville. Furthermore, Palma said that the day in question, Popper borrowed his bicycle to go drinking. Palma added that Popper returned three hours later covered in blood and without the bicycle.  Palma explained that police arrested him while at school a month after for the incident. Palma was unrepresented while Crown Counsel Riis Cattouse prosecuted the case.
