A fatal traffic accident on the Phillip Goldson Highway on Friday night left a twenty year old young man dead. Assistant Superintendent of Police, Juanito Cocom describes the scene when Police responded.
“Ladyville police responded to the scene of a road traffic accident between miles 13 and 14 on the Phillip Goldson Highway. Upon arrival police discovered a male person later identified as “Jairo Sosa”, a 20 year old Belizean laborer motionless on the right side of the road with severe head and body injuries. Police drove about 22 feet away from the body they found a red and black motorcycle bearing license plate number DEM0429 with the front portion extensively damaged. On the same side of the highway police found a pink colored Nissan Navaro pick up truck bearing license plate number BZC3637622 with damages to the right front portion. The driver of this vehicle was said to be Jamie Young a 28 year old Belizean of SandHill Village. Initial investigations revealed that Young was driving his vehicle in the direction of Belize City to Sandhill upon reaching an area between miles 13 and 14 on the Phillip Goldson Highway he collided with the motorcycle which was coming from the opposite direction in his lane. The scene was processed, statements were recorded and the vehicles were inspected and a urine sample was taken from Young who was also served with a notice of intended prosecution. The body of Jairo Sosa was transported to the KHMH hospital morgue where a post mortem was conducted this evening. The matter is currently under investigation.”
Police are investigating the incident.
