Jamaican Minor Hospitalized in Belize After Immigration Detainment

A Jamaican minor is currently hospitalized in Belize City after experiencing convulsions whilst detained by immigration.  Love News understands that the minor was among seven Jamaicans who were denied entry into the country on Friday, April 19.  The group arrived on a Copa Airlines flight but did not meet the requirements for entry.  The four adults and three minors were detained pending return when one of the children began having convulsions.  It was further discovered that the child is a sickle cell patient, and is currently hospitalized.  It is our understanding that the group of Jamaicans was denied entry as one of the minors did not have permission from both parents, and they were unable to provide proof of funds to travel.  According to an immigration source, the issue of Jamaicans coming through Belize to head north is once again seeing an increase.
