After five o’clock this evening Jasmine Hartin was released from the Belize Central Prison. She had been locked up there for eight nights on a charge of manslaughter by negligence. She stands accused of fatally shooting Superintendent Henry Jemmott on May twenty-eight while the two were on a pier in San Pedro Town. Today her attorney Senior Counsel Godfrey Smith successfully argued in court that Hartin should be admitted to bail despite the DPP’s objection that she is a flight. Supreme Court Justice Herbert Lord granted bail to the tune of thirty thousand Belize dollars plus one surety- cash deposit. Her bail came with eight conditions including surrendering all travel documents, reporting to the San Ignacio Court every day, and not interfering with the investigation. During the hearing today, Jemmott’s sister was in court today but declined comment after the ruling was given. Love News was at the prison today and captured Hartin’s exit.
Our newsroom will continue following this story. Up to news time tonight, we can tell you that there is no set court date scheduled for Hartin’s next appearance.
