Jealousy Suspected to Be Motive in Murder Case

Could it have been that jealousy that was the root cause of a stabbing incident that claimed the life of thirty two year old Mariano Castillo? That is what investigators are trying to figure out. Castillo’s common law wife believes that it is the reason he was viciously stabbed on Friday night. Castillo was on Mahogany Street in Belize City walking with his common law wife and two other persons. Investigators say that the group was approached by three men namely, John Grinage, Sheldon Grinage and Brandon Baptist. Seconds after contact was made between the two groups an all out brawl burst onto Mahogany Street. During the brawl, one of the three men took out what police believe to be a knife and repeatedly stabbed Castillo in his abdomen. Castillo attempted to run to the nearby sub police precinct but fell to the ground before reaching there. He was quickly taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where at 12:50 on Saturday morning he lost the battle for his life. Police would not comment on the matter but the department did send out a generic police report on it. While no motive was given, our understanding is that jealousy may have been the motive. Sources close to the investigation told Love News one of the attackers is the ex-lover of Castillo’s girlfriend. Police have since arrested and charged John Grinage, Sheldon Grinage and Brandon Baptist for Castillo’s murder. All three were arraigned in court today on one count of murder each and Magistrate Deborah Rogers remanded the trio to the Belize Central Prison until April 29. The three attackers are none to police as they are awaiting trial for aggravated burglary and theft. Castillo is originally from Georgetown Village in the Stann Creek District.
