25-year-old Jordy Usher underwent a four-hour surgery to remove a bullet lodged behind his nose. He went into the surgery just after 2 o’clock today and is admitted at the Belize Medical Associates in Belize City. As we told you yesterday the family is looking to host a fundraiser to cover the cost of the surgery. According to his mother, Margarita Hyde, the family is nervous and upset about the entire situation.
Margarita Hyde, Mother of Jordy Usher: “They’re going to remove the bullet that is lodged behind his nose and then he has a, I don’t know how you call it the piece of your nose that is inside of your nose, it is full of pus so they’re going to drain that. There are pieces of bone inside so that’s why they’re also going to remove the bones from in there and then they’re going to try to get the rest of the bullet from the side but if they won’t be able to get that piece they’re going to leave that piece there and then afterwards they’re going to try to because they don’t want to keep him long in the surgery. I feel very upset because I have to try to find money because there is only one surgeon in the country who can do the surgery and it’s a private. So I had to find $5,000 for the deposit here at the hospital then I had to find another $5,000 to give to the doctor this morning so that he can go ahead and do the surgery and then by Sunday I need to find another $6,500 when he is released from the hospital. I heard that the police is not even on indictment or anything he is on mandatory leave. I heard that they sent my son’s statement to San Ignacio, I heard that they went to the hospital to pick up the medical form, I don’t know if that’s true because I wasn’t contacted about it so I don’t know if that’s true. Internal affairs I won’t lie they called me and they talked to me but they said they were waiting on my son’s statement, he gave his statement two days ago so I haven’t heard anything again from them.”
This surgery is the first of three needed for him to fully recover. Usher was allegedly shot by police on Saturday, November 30 in Georgeville, Cayo District. Police have since issued a statement saying that Usher had broken multiple traffic laws and was being pursued by officers when the shooting occurred. Police Commissioner assured the public and the media that an internal investigation has been launched into the incident.
