23-year-old Jose Alberto Santos, a Honduran national, will have to pay a hefty fine of one thousand dollars for breaching Immigration laws. Today, Santos was arraigned on a charge of failure to produce a visitor’s permit, to which he pleaded guilty. The Immigration prosecutor explained to the court that previously Santos had complied with an order to leave the country in April of this year, but in July he had returned to the country illegally. Santos explained to Senior Magistrate Trecia Pitts-Anderson that he kept returning to Belize since he wants to be with his girlfriend and child.  For his guilty plea, Santos was fined one thousand dollars plus five dollars cost of court to be paid forthwith and a removal order was issued to have him removed from the country after he has paid the fine. Failure to pay the fine would result in six months imprisonment. Senior Magistrate Pitts-Anderson cautioned Santos that if he continues to defy the Laws of Belize, he will find himself behind bars for a very long time.  Additionally, she advised him to go through the proper procedure if he wants to enter the country.
