JTF-Bravo and doctors from Tradewinds provide eye care to Orange Walk communities

Members of the US Southern Command’s Joint Task Force-Bravo (JTF Bravo) medical team and their counterparts in Tradewinds 2022 wrapped their outreach in the Orange Walk District on Thursday.  A release from the U.S. embassy says that the teams partnered with local non-governmental organizations to provide preventative medicine courses, pediatrics, optometry, and dental services to over 879 residents in the Carmelita and Santa Marta villages between Tuesday and Thursday of this week.  Chief Petty Officer Kerstin Dickerson, Chief Operations Coordinator in the U.S. Embassy Security Cooperation Office explained that public outreach has been a large part of the focus of Tradewinds this year, adding that optometry is a new service that been popular in the communities they are working in this year. JTF-Bravo partnered with the Belize Council for the Visually Impaired, a local NGO, to bring the Carmelita community optometry care and glasses. Yesterday, the clinic moved to Santa Marta Village for final day of medical services for residents of that community.
