Justice Westmin James Appointed to Inter-American Development Bank Administrative Tribunal

Supreme Court Justice Westmin James has been appointed to the Inter-American Development Bank Administrative Tribunal. Justice James will be the youngest judge ever appointed to the Tribunal, the second national of Trinidad and Tobago after Justice Telford Georges and will be 8th Caribbean national over the last 40 years to be appointed. The other Caribbean legal luminaries to sit on the Tribunal includes a former Chief Justice of Barbados, two Caribbean Court of Justice judges, and Belize’s own Madam Justice Lisa Shoman who is the current President of the Tribunal. The tribunal hears complaints in which a current or former staff member of the IDB Group alleges non-observance of his or her contract of employment or terms and conditions of appointment provided the complainant has exhausted all other remedies available within the IDB Group. Justice James is currently acting as a Justice of the Supreme Court for the past year. Justice James, a former Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill and a published author, was selected after a very competitive process with hundreds of applicants from around the world.
