Over the weekend Belizean Kaina Martinez participated in the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships and earned the title ‘three-time All-American athlete’. The championships were held in Florida, USA, and there Martinez joined her colleagues, LaGae Brigance, Keandria Taylor and Plaserae Johnson. They ended the meet with a total of 16 points thanks to a group performance in the four by one hundred meter relay and a pair of top finishes from Martinez in the women’s one hundred meter and two hundred meter dash. In the first track event of the day, they topped their preliminary performance and ran a time of 44.98 seconds for a third place finish and six points. Martinez was responsible for the remaining ten points as she timed out in the 100-meter dash at 11.58 seconds for second place and ran the 200-meter dash in 24.10 seconds to place third. Martinez is a highly decorated athlete. She is originally from Siene Bight Village in southern Belize.
