Reports reaching our newsroom just before five o’clock this evening are that Karen Bevans is out as the Director of the Belize Tourism Board. The upper management are tight lipped on the details, and would only tell Love News that a press release will be issued on Monday. Unofficial sources, however, have told us that the Chairman of the Board, Evan Tillett had made the announcement to staff earlier today. He reportedly told the staff that the board made a decision that it is time for her to go, and that effective today she is no longer the Director at the BTB. Bevans had signed onto a 5-year employment contract back in early 2019. Her contract provided for a monthly salary of an estimated fourteen thousand dollars. The contract also provided for Bevans to collect just over forty three thousand dollars at the end of each fiscal year. She was also granted a monthly allowance of one thousand dollars for phone and internet, plus an addition two thousand dollars monthly as a housing allowance. Via the contract she was also given an exclusively assigned motor vehicle plus fuel and maintenance. We are following this story closely as the contract stipulates that should the contract be terminated without sufficient cause the BTB would then be liable to pay the remaining time on her contract which could very well reach the one million dollar mark.
