The CT-Scan at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital is expected to be back up and running by tonight, according to the Minister of Health and Wellness Kevin Bernard. The machine, acquired just this year, has been out of service for the last couple of days. The scanner suffered minor damage due to excess condensation that created a glitch in its hardware component. Fortunately, a specialized technician has since arrived in the country to have the scanner up and running by the weekend. Minister Bernard spoke about his ministry’s efforts to ensure a similar occurrence doesn’t occur and underscored that the machine plays a crucial role in the country’s public health sector.

Kevin Bernard, Minister of Health and Wellness: “Speaking to the CEO of KHMH, they have acquired two humidifier machines that will reduce the condensation because from what I understand the room should only have a level of condensation no more than 60 percent and I think it was a little bit above 60 percent which caused something on one of the machines of the CT scan and however what I can tell you is that the supplier quickly jumped in and I must thank the supplier because he’s always very cooperative, very responsive and they quickly jumped into that. In fact, today they have a technician that they flew in that from Fuji that is in country to make sure that the part which has been ordered, I think the part arrives today or early tomorrow morning. As soon as that part arrives they will replace and the machine should be good and ready to go. Like I said, it was unfortunate that it happened in this manner, but we cannot control environmentally challenged issues. And so we now realize that has to be addressed. And so KHMH will then take on that responsibility to fix whatever needs to be fixed to reduce the condensation I said they acquire these two humidifier machines. Now in terms of continued care we were able to quickly, the KHMH was able to quickly, as we made contact with providers locally, that provide that same type of service so that there was no delay in persons requiring the service. Our CT scan is a very good CT scan, one of the model CT scans within the entire region, 128 slice and so we must ensure that whatever investment we have made, it’s very well taken care of in terms of maintenance and all of these things, and so we cannot allow for something like this to be breaking down. But like I said, I must commend the supplier for his quick response and timely delivery of the ordering the part so that it could come in.”
The machine has been used to conduct 1,500 CT-scans since February.
