The problems in the health sector persist, but for now, the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital Authority Worker’s Union says they will suspend industrial action. The union says that following discussions with the hospital’s administration and the Ministry of Health, they’ve gotten a commitment to quote “provide a continuous supply of materials, adequate laboratory testing and pharmaceuticals of good quality. MOHW has also set a timeline of six (6) months as to the arrival and installation of a new CT-scan at the KHMHA. The dialogue between KHMHA and KHMHAWU will continue in an effort to ensure the continuity of a proper supply chain and to eliminate miscommunication between both parties.” Unquote. However, the union says it is disappointed with the decision to remove Dr. Andre Sosa as the hospital’s board chairman. We first reported on Friday that Dr. Sosa was taken off the board and in the interim, Arun Hotchandani is the acting board chairman. The union says quote “Dr. Andre Sosa understands the plight of the hospital making him a suitable advocate for the KHMHA and its patients. Dr. Sosa respects the need for a union. He worked hand in hand with the union to ensure the betterment of the hospital and its staff and proper care for the patients who utilize our institution.” End quote. The union has called on Minister Kevin Bernard to reconsider the decision adding quote “This is a position that should not be taken lightly as it requires a broad knowledge of health and administration.” End quote
