La Inmaculada students still not in classes

Students of La Inmaculada RC School are still at home despite reports that the school would re-open its doors today. Last Wednesday, the school was shut down due to the stench from the New River.  The odor resemled the foul smell of rotten eggs and posed health concerns to the students and teachers who were already getting sick.  Currently, the smell has tapered down but remains an issue.  The school’s principal, Lenny Umaña, says the school will re-open on Wednesday, giving the Department of Environment more time to remedy the situation. The extra time is a result of not wanting to relocate the classrooms.

Umaña also told us that about twenty five of the students had reported feeling sick last week.
