Labour Commissioner Confirms Significant Drop in Belize’s Unemployment Rate

The Labour Commissioner, Riselli Dominguez, has confirmed the significant lowering of the unemployment rate for Belize.  In an interview with Sunshine Radio in Punta Gorda, Dominguez noted that the 2022 figures are unprecedented for the country.

Rissela Dominguez-Patt, Labour Commissioner: “In terms of the most recent labor force survey this was conducted in October 2022 that survey stated that the unemployment rate stood at 5% and so it’s important to note that that is the lowest level of unemployment recorded in the country to date. However this decrease is attributed to more people finding jobs as well as persons leaving the workforce. Increase in employment was noted especially in the BPO, in the call centers, in tourism, manufacturing industries. Also the labor force also highlighted that the Belize district was the highest they had 64.7% participation. While the Toledo had the lowest which is 45.9% and so with that information then we need to ensure that we decided to initiate into this project because as you rightly heard Toledo had the lowest labor force participation 45.9%”
