Fourteen-year-old Laddie Gillett was finally laid to rest today in Chaa Creek, Cayo. He’s the teenage boy, whose life was cut short following a shooting on Placencia on the night of July fourteen. Pastor Santi Valencia reminded funeralgoers that life’s too short and we must use it to share love.
Pastor: “In Kriol we say ‘Noh wait fi di man dead fi tell ah ih good.’ We kinda revise that a little and we saw ‘Give me my roses while I could still smell it.’ and I was at a meeting last night and I said to some people we need to start practicing saying positive things about each other while we’re face to face like this.”
Corporal Kareem Martinez remains out on bail of eight thousand dollars after he was charged and arraigned for manslaughter. He goes back to court on October eighteen. At this hour a memorial service and candlelight vigil is taking place in Battlefield Park. Participants are asked to take candles and posters and wear football jerseys.
