Lee Mark Chang Demands Apology and $5K from Shyne Barrow Over Alleged Defamatory Statements

Five thousand dollars – that is the amount that Lee Mark Chang is demanding from Moses Shyne Barrow after a statement made in yesterday’s press conference.  Chang directed his attorney at Balderamos Arthurs LLC to write Barrow with a demand for an apology and the monetary compensation, more than likely to cover the legal fees.  The letter, dated yesterday (January 28), indicated that Barrow issued defamatory statements that brought Chang’s reputation into question.  The statements surround a passport scandal that involved Eric Chang.  Barrow attempted to include Lee Mark in the narrative, an attempt that Lee Mark has strongly rejected.  The letter noted, quote, “… the statements meant, and were understood to mean, that our client committed a criminal offence and was embroiled in a passport corruption scandal. The widely publicized passport corruption scandal involved the alleged sale of Belizean passports to Chinese nationals, an act which is a criminal offence.  The statements are not true, and seek to disparage our client so that you would gain political advantage in the campaign leading up to the general elections. The statements were therefore calculated on your part and intended to cause our client serious reputational damage.”  End of quote.  With all that said, Barrow has two days to issue an apology on the terms agreed to by Chang, and to pay five thousand dollars in damages.  Should Barrow fail to meet the deadline, a lawsuit will be filed and the financial claims could range between 30 and 50 thousand dollars.
