Police in Belize City are investigating two homicides that occurred over the weekend.  Just after seven o’clock on Saturday night a Faber’s Road resident was killed on Second Street in the King’s Park Area.  The homicide happened in front of the popular grocery store known as Alaska.  According to Senior Superintendent, Alejandro Cowo, 34-year-old Leon Peyrefitte was socializing with friends inside a car when two persons on a motorcycle approached the vehicle and fired shots at Peyrefitte.

Supt. Alejandro Cowo, Head of National Crimes Investigation Branch, Belize City: “What we understand is that he was along with family members and friends when two individuals were seen coming on a motorcycle. The passenger of the motorcycle jumped off from the cycle and went direct and fired shots at his direction causing his death. Based on what we are gathering is that it might be a possibility of a family dispute.”

Reporter: So any suspects at this time ?

Supt. Alejandro Cowo, Head of National Crimes Investigation Branch, Belize City: “We don’t have a suspect but we have interviewed the wife and other persons that are of interest and I believe that they can assist us in the investigation.”

Peyrefitte’s family is also hoping that justice will be served into the loss of their loved one.

Kyle Perefitte, Cousin of Deceased: “Everybody knows that the man was a working man, the man was not a trouble man. The man did his thing, came home and worked and thing. That’s all I can say about the man generally point blank and the man lost his life – simple like that in the street. Naturally everything will be different because you’re already used to seeing him about but it’s his kids because the man is a family man so it’s his kids that we now have to maneuver with this and we have to try to have their backs the same way because it’s the same thing he would have done for us too. The man left a house and everything, we’re here enjoying like how he would want us to enjoy once he was here. This man was not really around like that, this man goes anywhere he wants this man was just doing like everyone does on  Friday just circled around, took a little drink and maneuver around and thing.”

Peyrefitte leaves behind two children.
