Today the Lions Club of Belmopan in partnership with the Western Regional Hospital held a blood drive at the Belmopan Lion’s Den. Cayo correspondent Fem Cruz visited the den and has that story.
Fem Cruz, Cayo Correspondent: The Belmopan branch of the Lion’s Club today conducted a very important blood drive on Mountainview Boulevard in Belmopan. The theme for today’s drive is “Together we serve. Give blood, you save a life.” Zoey Zetina, one of the organizers spoke about the turnout.
Zoey Zetina, Organizer, Lions Club Blood Drive: “In Lionism we believe kindness matters and where there is a need there is a Lion. We saw an overwhelming cry for blood primarily on Facebook and we wanted to help. Despite the COVID pandemic the turn out was really good. We offered a safe, clean and comfortable place for those who wished to donate. Unfortunately about half of the those who turned out today were not able to donate, the biggest reason was that they themselves had a low blood count. We were happy that we could have assisted those persons with their blood count level and we offered advice on how they could improve their diet and live a healthier lifestyle. We thank all of those who came out today especially those who donated. We also thank the technicians of the Western Regional Hospital for their continued efforts to stock the blood bank and their continued support to initiatives of the Belmopan Lions Club.”
