Artist, Alex Sanker told the media that he has received a letter from CEO Narda Garcia’s lawyer over a painting he did. Sanker also said that that he was contacted by the Embassy of the United States in Belmopan about letter as part of its human rights report. Yesterday, the embassy confirmed that they have indeed spoken to Sanker in its course of doing routine data collection. Every year, American embassies around the world draft human rights reports, which are mandated by the U.S. Congress. In contacting Sanker, they were conducting a general query in light of its analysis for its report on freedom of expression in Belize. A release adds that in these reports, countries are not ranked or compared but that they are simply straightforward and factual.
