Local Artist TR Shine Demands Royalties from Radio Stations for Aired Songs

Local artist TR Shine has taken to social media asking that he be paid royalties by radio stations for his songs aired.  Royalties are monies that stations pay to organizations which in turn pay musicians for their songs playing on the radio. It’s one of the ways artists make money from their music.  However, Belizean artists aren’t making any revenue from their songs playing in Belize, and artist TR Shine says he feels it’s time that they did. TR Shine used Facebook to send out a call to radio stations to pay out royalties to Belizean artists. He called on Belizean artists to unite to demand that legislation be put in place that mandates their being paid. In his post, he wrote, quote, “Going into 2025 and Belize still way behind in support for their own and there’s no appeal to mitigate the situation with the implication of their royalty system. Artists need to form their #federation union in Belize. Long overdue,’ End of quote. Our newsroom reached out to TR Shine, but he declined to give an interview.
