The U.S. State Department also consulted the Leader of the Opposition, Moses “Shyne” Barrow on the relocation of Majid Khan to Belize. Barrow issued a statement on the matter today saying that Khan’s case quote “struck a chord on a humanitarian level” Unquote. Barrow cites his own experience with the American justice system and says that it makes him quote “sympathetic to the power of Mr. Khan’s ability to reform and the fact he is no longer the person who participated in a heinous crime 20 years ago” Unquote. He also says that the national security experts he’s consulted locally and internationally assured him that Khan is not a national security threat to Belize. Barrow adds that while he supports this arrangement, many concerns have been raised by Party members and the general public in my consultations. One of the prevalent concerns is how the relocation of Khan to Belize will impact our National Security. Barrow’s statement also says in part quote “Regardless of our disagreement on very many Policy issues I trust that the Prime Minister, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Cabinet would not do anything that would compromise our National security and put Belizeans at risk” Unquote. The release ends by saying “All the best to Mr Majid Khan.” End quote.
