The Leader of the Opposition, Moses “Shyne” Barrow, met with the U.S. State Department Director of Central America Affairs, Patrick Ventrell. The two discussed pressing matters such as strengthening Democracy throughout the region. Barrow presented Ventrell with a wood carved fish from an artist in Camalote Village on behalf of the United Democratic Party and people of Belize in honor of the over 40 years of friendship between Belize and the United States of America.Via a social media release, the Leader of the Opposition stated that in a world where despotic dictators and autocrats invade sovereign nations such as Ukraine and slaughter tens of thousands of Ukrainians; in a region where some of our neighbors jail Opposition Leaders, political opponents and dissidents, it is now more important than ever to push for democracy and freedom everywhere. The release further stated that we cannot sit on the fence as the global threat to democracy grows stronger and we must stand ready to condemn dictatorial regimes who abuse human rights, international law, and the inherent freedoms that should be enjoyed by all.
