Festivities in southern Belize leading up to the Garifuna Settlement Day celebration continued today, and the Love Crew was there as the Love FM southern tour continued. Today the crew was in George Town Village in the Stann Creek district, the only in-land Garifuna community in Belize. The crew was treated to a history of George Town Village by presenter Dale Guzman. In his presentation, Guzman explained that the village is an offshoot of Seine Bight and is connected to the subsistence farming practices of the Garinagu as well as the rise and fall of the timber industry in Belize.
Guzman noted that some of the men laid off from the sawmill were influential men and among them was Crispin Martinez. It is said that Martinez had a dream that he should move inland to where the farms were, a dream he would share with his friends that laid the foundation for George Town.
The crew also stayed for cultural performances by various cultural groups, before heading over to Dangriga for more activities. The southern tour continues tomorrow night in Dangriga where they will be all night drumming.
