The Briceño administration is set to enhance the National Fire Service (NFS) with significant upgrades. Today, Minister of Public Service, Governance, and Disaster Risk Management, Henry Charles Usher, highlighted ongoing improvements and future plans to bolster the country’s firefighting capabilities. The upgrades will range from upgrades to various fire stations across the country to providing life-saving training for fire personnel. Minister Usher says the efforts reflect the government’s commitment to modernizing fire services across Belize. He noted that these initiatives are part of a broader strategy to strengthen the NFS, ensuring better preparedness and response to emergencies nationwide.

Henry Charles Usher, Minister of Public Service: “The National Fire Service, Mr. Speaker, strengthens emergency response. The emergency medical service provision was launched in Belize City and Orange Walk, and this has enhanced the emergency response capabilities. Approval for 80 additional firefighters reflects our government’s dedication to strengthening the NFS workforce. Plans are underway for new fire stations addressing the needs of growing communities. In this term, Mr. Speaker We will build the headquarters for the National Fire Service. As this House will recall, it was the UDP administration that sold the fire station headquarters. Sadly, the monies from that sale were never seen. These efforts align with Plan Belize’s focus on improving public safety and emergency services across the nation.”
Minister Usher added the government continues to invest in infrastructure and training to support the personnel serving in the fire service
